Alan Berry Rhys

Alan Berry Rhys is an illustrator from Beunoa Aires, Argentina. His work is inspired by vintage graphic advertisements which is definitely noticeable.. Some of his work are collabs with huge brands such as Nike, Oreo, Absolut Vodka and many more, which proves that he is doing something right!

Looking at his portfolio, it’s clear to see that he uses retro colours, with sharp varied weighted outlines and gradient techniques to create beautiful designs. His work is rather varied with subject matter which includes, fish, lighthouses and skulls but they all links together through his stunning style and quirky vibe.

The work found in his portfolio is filled with fun, where there are peaches with smiley faces and clouds holding umbrellas. It brings out his own personality, which I aspire to be able to do with my own work as well.

I especially love the illustrations which have animals in them, as he presents the true beauty of life through them. Mixing animals and humans as subject matter in his illustrations are my favourite examples of his work. It creates a sense of community between species and provides the idea of strength.

Not forgetting his beautiful use of type. His use of type can definitely link back to his inspiration of vintage graphic design advertisements, where text has been used. The vintage type is used successfully with his illustrations yet as it’s own voice and comes forwards from the other subject matter.
