Alex Cabal is an illustrator working in Los Angeles working with clients such as Macmillan and Disney Publishing Worldwide.

Her work is filled with subject matter, vivid colour and immense detail which is why her pieces caught my eye. I find that her personal work is very busy, with a lot going on it each piece, I find it interesting because the more you look into one of her pieces, the more you find.

It is clear to identify that she has really thought about each individual character within her portfolio. When previously working on a character design project myself I found it especially important to create a fact file, to figure out the ins and the outs of the character itself, as just jumping into the idea and having no idea where to go is daunting yet some people can easily pull it out of the bag. Going off topic a little bit here.. sorry.. but I cannot stress enough planning and really creating a stable foundation for projects, with mind-maps, mood boards and book research. Throughout the first year of my degree I found that in the beginning my lacking of research into a project really showed in the solutions that I produced. Don’t get me wrong, being spontaneous is very thrilling and brings amazing ideas but a little bit of planning never hurt anybody!

From looking closer into her designs, texture is found, whether that is texture overlay or textured brush strokes. I can only assume that she uses digital processes when creating her stunning works as this is most likely the easiest way to accomplish this desired effect.
Her name is Alex Cabal. Go check her work out!
