Where to start hey.

Bodil Jane is an Illustrator based in Amsterdam and represented by Folio Art which is an illustration agency which is based in Central London. Her clients include Lush, Tommy Hilfiger and so many more! Her work is mostly female focused which bring the idea of community forward and looking out for each other too. Her aesthetic is very homemade and subtle which is very warming.

Lucy Bourton writes ‘ her work is almost as if Frida Khalo had lived in a world painting by Raoul Dufy, but Henri Matisse was on hand to her with the plants’ about the illustrator.

She has a variety of themes of her illustrations such as people, commercial, nature and sports which you can see on her website (https://www.bodiljane.com). Even though her subject matter is rather varied, she never fails to link each piece with her slightly muted colour scheme, thin coloured outlines and static motion.

Some of her illustrations have also been animated to create slight movement, which would be something that I would like to be able to do to branch out further and gain new skills. Even though her animations are very rigid and jumpy, it adds to her raw style.

She uses a variety of brushes too which add slight textures to her work, which are not overwhelming as she uses a lot of subject matter anyway. Her scale is not realistic but that’s what makes it so natural and hand drawn. The pattern within her designs link together to create details which are mostly in the foreground of designs

Her work has been printed on bags, phone cases, books badges and much more. This is where I aspire to be! Creating beautiful, relatable illustrations which are spread across the world which spread positivity.
