How taking social media seriously has benefitted my illustration career.

From growing up with social media and working in social media marketing, social media has always been present in my day to day life. Since beginning my journey as an illustrator there are so many benefits and learning curves from taking it seriously.

What have I done to make sure that I am using social media to maximise my gain?


First of all, I have made sure that I am present of a majority of social media platforms that I believe are suitable for my brand. For example, TikTok rewards you the most when you post more regularly than not, so I ensure that I am constantly posting on the video platform at least once a day. In addition, spreading myself across Facebook groups, Pinterest Boards as well as Linkedin and Instagram, this means that my audience is larger due to the number of social media platforms that I use.


In addition, keeping up high interactive stats is great too! What I mean by this is ensuring that I am always responding to comments, sharing other creatives work and building more of a support network. I found this very significant because yes lots of followers is great, but actually what is even better is the quality of your audience.

How has maximising my social media presence helped my brand?


It is all about being consistent with social media and showing each of your audiences that you are sticking around and that there’s always something going on to keep them interested. This idea has grown my audience majorly in the past few months and it feels as if I am now starting to feel more of a community than a following. In addition, I have seen a number of sales come from social media and generally lots of love.

What will I be doing to move forward?


Moving forward, with social media, I want to be more personal and it to gain friendliness. For example, doing more voiceovers and talking to the camera really helps with audience engagement so doing more of this will capture more interest in my brand which is important. Furthermore, more content shoots will have to come around as viewers love to see new content not just recycled videos and images.
