Kath Harding

Kath Harding is a South African Illustrator who now lives and works in Herefordshire, UK. On her website (https://kathharding.com) she says that her passions include sustainability, mental health, diversity and a few others, and loves drawing people. She uses a mixture of both digital and hand drawing in her designs too, which help her work flourish.

The areas of her work which I am particularly drawn to would be the drawings of people. I think they’re GREAT! The way the bulky watercolour engulfs itself and the rounded black lines structure the figures is so amazing. I notice that some of the time, the black line does not provide a perimeter for the drawing, it seems to be a broken line which adds effortless style to her work. The vivid colour brings the idea that each individual is totally different but has their own positive, explosive energy.

I especially enjoy her designs of orange, pink and red combinations. The use of analogus colours bring so much warmth to the page and enthusiasm to look at the good things in life (sounds deep…).

In those designs where more than one figure is the subject matter, they illuminate friendship and belonging, which seems so little yet a great feeling.
