Levelling up to an iPad

Only a few months ago when I finished my degree at NTU, I treated myself to an iPad. It had crossed my mind many times that I should invest earlier on but I stuck it out and told myself I would get one as a reward for completing the degree and I am SO SO HAPPY that I finally have one!

ADOBE

Before this, I used Adobe software on my MacBook which worked absolutely fabulous for me, I have a Wacom tablet also which was helpful so that my 'drawing with a pencil' skills did not completely disintegrate. I saw classmates and illustrators that I look up to using iPads and I watched satisfying videos on TikTok of creatives using iPads but like I said, I wanted to stick it out until I had finished my degree.

Looking back now, the difference in my illustrations can easily be noticed. From and outsiders view it may be unclear where I am picking that fact from, yet the time it would take me to create something on the Adobe software (at the time) would take me much less time to create it on ProCreate now. Don't get me wrong, I am still learning a lot from Procreate on an iPad and adore the Adobe software too, I think both work very well together and I frequently switch between the two.

Even though I was using a Wacom Tablet to draw, I felt that my drawing skills were beginning to get lost as I could not see what the pen was drawing when I looked down of the grey surface that was the Wacom Tablet (which was the main reason for getting an iPad). Now my confidence has excelled because I can draw all sorts of funky things!!

ADOBE

The purpose of this blog post is just to show my personal journey of illustrations using Adobe Illustrator to mostly Procreate now. Obviously my style has slightly changed as well which can be helped by the ability to draw like pen on paper and the variety of brushes on Procreate (I couldn't quite figure out how to add as many brushes on the Adobe software...)
That's a wrap on my personal journey with Adobe and Procreate!
Emily :)
